Summer
We are an ideal destination for young and old.
There are various hiking trails to reach us:
- Along the forest path, which starts from parking lot „Berg am Boden” at the end of the Valles valley.
After about an hour and approximately 340 m difference in altitude you are arrived at the destination. - Along the milk trail – it also starts from the parking lot at the end of the valley and from the information panels next to the trail, hikers learn interesting facts about the South Tyrolean dairy industry.
- Along the high altitude trail of Valles: From the mountain station of the railway cable car Jochtal on the trail no. 9 to the Malga Rotenstein and along the high altitude trail to giogo Peachenjöchl (some safety ropes). Then the path leads downhill to the Malga del bue and then further to the Malga Fane. Return back to Valles on the milk trail.
- Via the Altafossa Valley on trail no. 15 along the “Stinscharte”.

The Malga Fane is also the ideal starting point for various hiking and mountain tours.
We have selected some hiking tips for you:
Lake Selvaggio
The tour starts from the parking lot Malga Fane. Pass the Fane alpine village in direction of trail no. 17, through the canyon “Valler Schramme”.
Then continue on the left side following trail no. 18 to the Malga Pian di Làbes (2.138 m asl).
Along trail no. 18 into the valley and then turn to the right and up to the Lake Selvaggio (2.538 m asl).
Before the lake you will find some exposed positions with safety ropes.
Really experienced hikers can even hike the mountain trail to the Rautalscharte (2.808 m asl) with the descent via the rifugio Bressanone.
Lake Lago del Marmo
From the Fane parking lot to the canyon “Schramme”, here turn left and continue on the broad trail no. 18 to the Malga Pian di Làbes. Further up to the Lago di Marmo on trail no. 18/a.
Steep descent from the sea to the Malga Aschila and then back to the Malga Fane.
Cima di Valmala
From the Fane parking lot following trail no. 17 through the canyon “Schramme”. Then continue on a nice path and through meadows to the Rifugio Bressanone.
Follow the narrow marked path in a southeasterly direction, then eastward and finally north on a steep meadow to the base of the final ascent.
After a rugged section (with fixed ropes) we reach the summit; 2 hours from the Rifugio Bressanone.
Return via the same route.
Festivals
Dairy Festival
The entire dairy industry in South Tyrol, in conjunction with the South Tyrolean Dairy Association holds the annual Dairy Festival during the last weekend in August. The festival takes place every two years.
Milk is in the centre of attention with plenty of information about the processing and refinement of milk products.
The Dairy Festival also provides numerous curiosities including fairy tales based on the topic of milk and a romp in the hay.
Dexterity is put to the test in the “milking competition”, old traditions are revived with “butter pounding” and
you can find out more about the legendary “Cleopatra bath”.
At the “milkbar” you can discover the variety of the South Tyrolean dairy products, enjoy regional products and tasting cheese and yoghurt.
You can spend a leisurely day with culinary delicacies and local music in the heart of nature.
Fane Festival
The annual highlight of the summer season is the Fane Festival.
For more than 20 years this event takes place on the last Sunday in July and provides a wonderful opportunity for young and old, locals and tourists, to celebrate together.
The festival opens at 10.00 am with a field mass.
Typical dishes as dumplings, Kasnocken, Schlutzkrapfen, Melchamuis, Schmarren and Strudel are part of the menu. The culinary delicacies are characterized by the authentic preparation.
Musicians, Schuhplattler and Goaßlschnöllern offer best entertainment.
